Instrument Cluster Removel
![]()
One of the reasons for the removale of the instrument cluster is to have one or more of the small cluster lights burn out. The reason for removal this time was a engine light burned out. This prevented me from passing my emmissions test. This is a simple job I thought. The main tool I used for this job was the 1/4 inch drive Long Shank Torque Screwdriver. This torque screwdriver can be used with any 1/4 drive sockets. It comes with Torque Meter Window to Clearly Indicate Desired Torque Measurement. You can lock the Torque Setting for Continuous Use Without Resetting. This tool comes with its own case for easy storage of unit.
WARNING : This model comes with a (SRS), more commonly known as airbags. Always disconnect the negative battery cable first, then the positive cable and wait for a couple minutes before working in the area of the impact sensors, steering column or instrument panel to avoid the possiability of accidental deployment of air bag. Which can cause personal injury. Do not use any electrical test equipment on any of the AIRBAG system wiring or tamper with them in any way.
1 Disconnect the negitive cable, then the positive cable and wait two minutes before moving forward.
2 Tilt the steering wheel to its lowest position and remove the instrument cluster bezel. In order to remove bezel you need to remove the headlight switch knob, push the retaining tab at the bottom of the knob to remove it. If looking under the dash above the cluster you will see two small retaining screws, remove them and there will be just a couple of clips holding it in place at the bottom. Pull the instrument cluster bezel outwards while releasing the lower clips on the bezel. Remove Bezel away to proceed. Instalation is reverse of removal.
3 Now you can remove the instrument cluster retaining screws. These screws are at the side top and bottom, (4)
4 You should be able to pull the instrument cluster out and unplug the electrical connecters from the back side, then remove cluster outwards. This will make it easier to replace burned out cluster lights in unit.
5 Instalation is reverse of removal.

Installing a Medicine cabinet

The first decision you make with this project is to determine wether you can do the job, in order to do a recessed medicine cabinet. You need to ask yourself if you can cut drywall and screw wood together accurately, then this will be no problem. The second step for installing a medicine cabinet, even before buying the cabinet, should be to look inside the wall to be sure you have no obstacles that can’t be moved out of the way. Most obstacles are electrical wires, studs in a non-load-bearing wall, and sometimes plumbing lines, which can be rerouted out of the way for the recessed medicine cabinet to be installed. When looking thru the hole you cut for inspection of the wall, look for large vent pipe or load-bearing framing. If you encounter these two then it will be more difficult to get them out of the way. If not experienced with moving a load-bearing- stud,or moving the big vent pipe, then I would recommend that a surface mount cabinet be installed.
Most medicine cabinets are pre-assembled which makes it easier to install, you just cut the hole in the wall and screw a box frame for the cabinet to slide into. After looking into the inspection holes for obstacles, you are now ready to take your keyhole saw and cut along your pencil mark on the wall. Once you have cleared the opening of all debree, your ready to remove the stud. You will now need the hacksaw blade to slide behind the stud to cut any screws being used to hold sheetrock from the back side, once done you can now use the hand saw to cut the stud flush at the marks at the opening. Now is the time to do a dry fit,if it is necessary use the rasp and utility knife to cut the tight places so the cabinet will slide in.It is now time to install the blocking.
To measure and cut the blocking, slide a horizontal peice of 2×4 into the opening.Hold it level with the butt end against the other stud in the wall.Mark it where it meets the cut stud.Saw it to this length,do the other three the same way at the top and bottom of the cut stud.To attach the blocking, put adhesive on both ends, and place it so it fits between the studs, flush with the edge of the sheetrock.Hold it level in place by fastening the edge of the Sheetrock to it with the drywall screws. Then drive the decking screws at a angle thru the blocking and into the studs at both ends.Continue on and install the other three blocks in the same manner.Once this is done you are ready to cut the other two vertical blocks to fit the edge of the opening.Place the two pieces between the horizontal blocking and attach them with angled decking screws. To screw at a angle, start the screw off straight for a few turns. Then tilt the drill driver and screw and slowly finish driving it in.
With the blocking done you are ready too mount the cabinet. Fit the cabinet inside the blocking and press all the edges flush against the wall. Then drive the drive wall screws thru the holes in the side of the cabinet and into the blocking. If necessary caulk around the edges of the cabinet. If you had taken off the doors and shelves this is the last step to installing the medicine cabinet.Re-install doors and shelves and nothing else is left to do but organize and stock cabinet. You have now upgraded with a beautiful new Mirror and medicine cabinet.
Here is a list of materials for this project. You will need the medicine cabinet, one 2×4 about 8 to 10 feet, use scraps if you have them, construction adhesive,2 1/2 inch decking screws,1 1/2 drywall screws and caulk. Below is a list of tools to do this job.
Stud finder to locate stud to be removed, tape measure & pencil to mark the wall, utility knife& keyhole saw to cut wallboard, hand saw to cut stud,drill/screw driver to install screws for blocking&fastening the cabinet, I recommend when choosing the cabinet,to Check out the web sites on here as well as in your local area.
